Datenschutz MealBok
Stand: 6. November 2026

MealBok Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 November 2026
In short: MealBok has no ads, no tracking and no analytics. An account is optional. Without an account, your food diary stays on your device. Photos are only sent for analysis when you use the AI photo feature.
- Everything is stored on your device. Diary, weights, goals, profile, your own foods, meals and settings live inside the app on your phone.
- Account and cloud (optional, with MealBok Plus): If you create an account or sign in, your email address (or an identifier from Sign in with Apple) and your diary, weights, goals, profile, own foods, meals and settings are stored with Google Firebase (database in Zurich, Switzerland) to sync them between your devices. Photos and Apple Health permissions stay on the device. Only you can see this data. The account is the same as in the SetBok app. In the app you can sign out, delete only the MealBok data in the cloud, or delete the whole account.
- Apple Health (optional): If you allow it, the app reads weight, body fat percentage and steps from Apple Health to estimate your energy expenditure. This data stays on your device, is never sent anywhere and never used for advertising. The app does not write to Apple Health.
- Food search and barcodes: When you search for a product or scan a barcode, the app sends the search term or barcode number to Open Food Facts (non-profit database, France). For technical reasons, Open Food Facts sees your device's IP address. The barcode itself is read on the device.
- AI photo recognition (optional): When you have a photo of a meal or a package analysed, the app sends the photos and your optional note to our server (Cloudflare) and from there to Anthropic (USA), which analyses them with the AI model Claude. We do not store the photos. Under its terms, Anthropic does not use them to train its models and deletes them after a short time. The app asks for your permission before the first use. Photos you keep with one of your own foods stay on your device.
- Anonymous installation ID: To count the free photos per month, the app creates a random ID that reveals nothing about you. It is sent with every photo analysis. The server only stores how many photos this ID has used in the current month; the counter is deleted after 40 days at the latest.
- MealBok Plus subscription (optional): Payment is handled through your Apple ID; we receive neither your name nor payment details. We use RevenueCat (USA) to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat receives the anonymous installation ID and the purchase information from Apple (which subscription, since when, until when).
- MyFitnessPal import: The exported file is read only on your device and not sent anywhere.
- Camera and photos: The app only uses the camera and photo library when you scan a barcode or pick a photo.
- Deleting: Settings → Delete all data, or delete the app. That removes everything on the device. To delete cloud data, go to Settings → Account & Cloud (only MealBok data, or the whole account with the data of both apps). The photo counter on the server expires on its own.
- This website uses no cookies and no tracking. Only your language choice is saved in your browser. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes IP addresses for technical reasons.
Transfers abroad: Anthropic and RevenueCat are based in the USA, Open Food Facts in France. Google Firebase (Google, USA) stores the cloud data in Zurich; for sign-in, Google may also process data in the USA. Data is only transferred when you use the respective feature, based on standard contractual clauses or these providers' privacy terms.
Your rights: You can ask at any time what data we hold about you and have it corrected or deleted. You can delete most data directly in the app. For anything else, write to support@setbok.ch. You can also complain to a data protection authority, in Switzerland the FDPIC, in the EU the authority in your country.
